Rescues

Please check out the website for the Ohio Pug Rescue organization.  There are many good reasons to adopt a dog rather than purchase a puppy.  Please check out the pug rescue sites before committing to a puppy and see what they have to offer!  If you are wondering whether you should get one pug or two and are set on a puppy, then why not consider a rescue, also?  Dogs can bond at any time through their life when they feel that they have someone with whom they can communicate.  Take a peek and see if one speaks to your heart.

Occasionally we assist friends and local groups place dogs in need of homes.  These dogs can be of any breed, but ones that we have taken under wing, have evaluated, and are helping provide a means of finding them homes.  We will feature their pictures and any information we know about them here and/or the index page until they have found their forever homes!

Marvin - Needs A Home

Posted 11-4-07

Marvin is still looking for his forever home.  Marvin is a year-old AKC registered, neutered basset hound.  He unfortunately finds himself displaced because of a break-up and a move to where the dog cannot be kept.  He is a sweetheart.  His foster mom says that he used to bark all the time when he came, but now he is much more calm and doesn't bark.  He is not currently in a fenced yard and would benefit from some fencing.  He does like to follow a scent but is pretty good about stopping on the neighbor's property and turning around to come back home.  He might get more adventurous as he gets older.  He is good with other dogs and is currently living with a german shepherd.  Also good with the foster mom's cat.  If interested, please email and we'll put you in touch with the foster home.

Celie looking for a forever home

Posted 03-02-08

Celie is a special needs puppy.  She is somewhere between 6-8 months old, a cross between a shepherd and rottweiler.  After meeting her, I'm not really seeing any rott other than some of the coloring.  Her body structure, fur, and personality seem to be all shepherd.  Celie lived in a home where the senior person died and the other adult moved and abandoned the animals to fend for themselves.  There was food in the house, but when another relative discovered them, there was no food where they could reach it.  Also, after the departure of the other adult, some unsavory people moved into the house without permission and there is suspicion that they mistreated the animals.  As soon as this was discovered, a more caring relative took the dog and as many cats as she could capture and is looking for homes for them.  She has Celie with her now, but cannot keep her for long in her current situation.  Celie is showing some fear issues and might possibly evolve into fear aggression unless she receives the help of someone who knows how to handle her special needs.  If you know of someone who might be willing to work with Celie, please contact us.

Jody

Jody has found a home with an experienced hunter who has a male german short-haired pointer.  There are 3 children to hand out lots of love and many acres of ground right next door where she can forage to her heart's content!

Surrenders

For those of you who cannot keep your pet for whatever reason, please be sure to exhaust all efforts of finding it a home before surrendering it to an animal shelter.  They simply cannot save them all.  For $10, most newspapers will allow you to place an advertisement and often this will be very effective in finding your pet a new home.  Also look into rescues for your breed.  If you simply MUST place it with an animal shelter, realize that you could be signing the death sentence of a being who places its total trust in you, who you accepted responsibility for when you took it into your home.  Be sure that wherever you surrender your animal, it has its medical records with up-to-date shots.  And before taking it to an animal shelter, please read this story:  His Name is Sam

Homeward Bound Pug Rescue

I was fortunate enough to participate in a rescue relay that carried two wonderful little puggies across from Oklahoma to their new homes in Maine.  If you'd like to read the story as it unfolded, please check out this site at www.pugstories.org.
